When it comes to treating your beloved dogs, the variety of options in our store can be overwhelming. This type of treat might be new to you, sparking questions for some dog owners. Are these snacks safe? Do they provide any real nutritional benefits? Let's explore the fascinating world of furry treats and determine whether they are suitable for your best friend.

What Are Furry Treats?

Furry treats, or fur-on treats, are snacks made primarily from animal skin but that have the fur or hair left on, often sourced from rabbits, cows, pigs or other mammals. They are a bit on the unique end of our treat options! Fur can provide essential nutrients and fiber!

Everything we source comes from animals raised right here in the USA. We only buy from small family farms what they once lacked a customer base for! This gives them a source of revenue on items they were once throwing away and it gives us a source of quality proteins to create our line of treats from.

Nutritional Benefits Of Feeding Furry Treats

Furry treats contain valuable nutrients like fiber, proteins, amino acids, and manganese, a trace mineral that is considered nonessential and often isn't included in commercial pet food. Who made that decision anyway?

Choosing fur-on treats can enhance a dog’s diet! In addition the skin providing amino acids, the fur is a source of insoluble fiber, which can aid in digestion, bulking up poops, which gives gut bacteria a healthy environment to thrive! Fur also acts like a pipe cleaner, clearing out buildup in the digestive tract - including to help remove parasites!

As your pup grinds through the chewy skin, they abrasive hair will help to scrub up the teeth, removing buildup. This is an added bonus!

Our favorite reason for choosing to feed furry, or fur-on, treats though, is that your pets will be receiving a natural source of manganese to help support strong tendons, ligaments, bones and musculoskeletal system.

Over time, a diet lacking in manganese weakens bones, tendons and ligaments, in addition to other things. Giving your pup this trace mineral in it's natural form means you're helping to keep their system strong. It can even help to repair damaged ligaments!

Other Benefits Of Feeding Furry Treats

Providing furry treats for your pup means they get to experience a wider range of scents and textures. This might seem like a little thing, but your dog uses their nose to receive information. This is one of the best ways to provide enrichment, both physically and emotionally. An emotionally enriched dog is a healthy, thriving dog. Plus they'll get the chewy texture of the skin to keep them occupied for a little bit.

Final Thoughts On Feeding Furry Treats

Can your dog eat furry treats? Your pup SHOULD be eating fur-on treats! Take the time to research thoroughly and engage with us or another trusted source when deciding whether to introduce this type of treats into your pet's diet.

As always, provide a big bowl of water and monitor your pets! If you have a wolfer, you want to make sure they chew thoroughly before swallowing - no matter what type of treat they're eating!

If doubts linger, remember to take is slow! Limit chew sessions for pets who are new to this style of treat! As with all of our treats and chews, store chewed treats in paper so that they can dry naturally with airflow. They are dried with airflow and like to breath!

We hope you'll take the plunge and give furry treats a try for your furrmily!
